Last night a selection of members from the charity took part in an interview with BBC Radio Lancashire, live from our Head Quarters at Bamber Bridge. They discussed the work of the charity and how it helps to save the NHS money. A number of members were interviewed and talked about the different roles that they do and how they all come together to fulfil the aims of the charity.

After weeks of glorious sunshine we should have known better than to bring out the central area gazebo. Our third major event of the year and our third wet one! Despite the weather we had a fabulous time and had an excellent attendance of members from all areas. Along with some new faces, we had the pleasure of the lovely Gary Warn who is once again an active member in North West Blood Bikes proving that once you join this amazing group there is just no escape!

Within Central Lancs area lies the beautiful rural village of Goosnargh, a village that our riders pass through on most days. It is also the home of the Goosnargh and Whittingham Women’s Institute who meet in the village hall, which is where Mike Hockney and I caught up with them and delivered a talk on what we do at North West Blood Bikes and how this benefits their community.

On Tuesday evening I was heading to my scheduled Blood Bike talk with a small degree of trepidation after the sudden loss of one of our colleagues Russ Curwen only 3 days before. However as I arrived with Colm Carton our Central Area Manager the welcome we received from Dot and the rest of the ladies of Spendmore Lane Friendship Hour diminished any concerns within seconds. I don’t believe Colm had chance to even get off his bike before getting a great big hug!

ASDA have yet again done us proud with their support of North West Blood Bikes. We have been very fortunate over the last few months in many stores across the region being chosen by customers to win the green token scheme. Chorley ASDA store is no exception to this and on Saturday 14th April we were privileged to be presented with a cheque for £500.

For the second year in a row this event has been an incredibly wet one but we didn’t let the rain dampen our spirits.
We had the lovely Marion to attract people over and have a chance to sit on a liveried blood bike. (thanks Simon for entrusting her to us), a large selection of merchandise and of course as has become a tradition a selection of cakes to raise money through donations. We had lots of enquiries and hopefully these will result in new members of the charity plus a few future events.
