As Britain’s busiest blood bike service we are celebrating 100,000 mercy missions - covering more than 1.5 million miles (to the moon and back three times) and saving the NHS more than £5.5 million over the last nine and a half years. North West Blood Bikes, which covers Lancashire and South Lake District, marked the milestone with a routine mission.

Booking of collections is now closed
For the past 12 years St John’s Hospice have collected Christmas trees in the local areas in return for a donation.
“The whole event is quite good fun as we have many volunteers who go out in all weathers across our areas (From Garstang to Grasmere, Milnthorpe to Settle) they love the great Christmas Tree hunt.”
Every year they give some of the proceeds to other charities. This year they have chosen 5 local charities to also benefit from this and once again North West Blood Bikes is one of them. We are delighted to have been selected by St John’s Hospice and hope that many of our followers and supporters will help them support us and the other worthy causes.

Although huge difficulties lie ahead fighting the COVID 19 pandemic some elements of a kind of normality have been returning recently. For NWBB that includes our over 70 riders and drivers being able to return to duty if they feel able. We have missed their involvement and they have certainly missed the opportunity to get out and do something useful for our NHS.

The unpaid volunteer motorcycle riders and car drivers of North West Blood Bikes Lancs and Lakes have continued to operate through the COVID19 pandemic. This is despite having to shield some members from the virus for personal or age-related risk of exposure. The charity has been able to meet the request of the NHS to continue providing the level of safe, free, professional volunteer transport our healthcare customers have come to expect and rely upon outside normal work hours.

All our 423 Members have done an amazing job, either controlling the riders, or being a rider, or fundraiser and spreading the word about who we are.
