Euxton Library - Talk

Amanda Mason writes: We were recently contacted by Kath Deakin from Euxton Village Library asking if we would be available at 10.30 last Thursday morning. Now that I am back at work during the week I usually cannot commit to daytime weekday events however I had in fact booked some Annual Leave so was actually available. Ironically I now work in Euxton so it did feel like I was heading to work that morning although a little later than normal.

As soon as I pulled up outside of the Library I saw my trusty assistant for the morning, who was none other than Central Rider, Ian German. Unbelievably this was the first time we had ever met each other even though both Ian and I have exchanged many text messages and phone calls in the evenings and at weekends volunteering on call with North West Blood Bikes since 2014!
After getting over our own internal introductions we entered the Library to a warm welcome from Kath and the group which included plenty of cups of tea and chocolate biscuits, and this was even before we had done anything.

With the weather being on our side we took advantage of this and prior to the talk Ian assembled everyone outside and showed them the Blood Bike he had brought along. As well as explaining about all the ‘extras’ a Blood Bike carries to a normal bike as well as demonstrating the ‘sirens’ and ‘flashy lights’ of course we wanted everyone to ‘try it out for size’ hoping we could recruit them to volunteer alongside us! :-)

Following the talk and answer session I delivered Kath presented us with a cheque from local Euxton resident, Marilyn Porter. Recently Marilyn’s husband had fallen ill and we understand North West Blood Bikes Lancs and Lakes had been involved in transporting services to assist with his care. Marilyn had been unable to attend the talk herself however we thank you so much for your donation and wish Mr Porter a speedy recovery! Thank you Euxton Library for such a memorable morning and for helping raise awareness of the North West Blood Bikes.
