BLOOD BIKERS RIDE AWAY TRIUMPHANT AS RAV WILDING CRACKS THE CASE OF WHO WON LOTTERY AWARD

Today TV star Rav Wilding presented volunteers from the North West Blood Bikes Lancs & Lakes with a much-deserved National Lottery Award trophy.

The former Splash contestant is famous for presenting Crimewatch Roadshow; where Rav takes to the streets of Britain on his motorbike to ask the public for help on unsolved cases. Today he couldn’t resist donning his helmet and gear and joining the blood bikers for a ride following the big announcement.

The North West Blood Bikes Lancs & Lakes is a voluntary, out–of–hours transport service, which works with hospitals in Lancashire and the Lakes. This group of motorcyclists volunteer in their ‘down’ time – evenings, weekends, and bank holidays, seven days a week, 365 days a year - to ensure hospitals don’t have to pay for private couriers out of hours. Their National Lottery grant funded one of the group’s 14 liveried bikes.

Rav Wilding said: “I’m delighted to present the blood bikers with their well-earnt National Lottery Award. The inspirational volunteers behind this project are a real credit to society. They think nothing of giving up their free time to transport urgently needed medical supplies, and in doing so, save lives. National Lottery players should feel proud to support such an outstanding project.”

Almost 5,000 people voted for the North West Blood Bikes Lancs & Lakes to be named the UK’s Best Health project, supported by Woman & Home, in this year’s National Lottery Awards - the annual search to find the UK’s favourite Lottery-funded projects.

Paul Brooks, Chairman and Trustee, North West Blood Bikes Lancs & Lakes said: “I’m over the moon to hear that we have won a National Lottery Award. Thank you to everyone who voted, we really value your support. It’s heart-warming to feel appreciated for the hard work we put in every day to operate a professional service.”

The North West Blood Bikes Lancs & Lakes win a £3,000 cash prize, an iconic National Lottery Awards trophy and will attend a star-studded Awards ceremony, The National Lottery Stars, broadcast on BBC One on September 12.
