Our mission

We aim to provide a totally free, but professional, voluntary service, out of normal working hours for the transportation of Urgent and Emergency items, e.g. blood, platelets, samples, donor breast milk, patient notes, theatre equipment, in fact anything that can be carried by motorcycle, solely for the benefit of the publicly funded emergency services and the patients being treated by them, within the NHS Hospitals.

We will provide this service through the night, and 24 hours per day at weekends and Bank Holidays, to the best of our ability, enabling hospital funding to be better spent on patient care.

We started operating in May 2012 and as the counter shows the number of call outs we are completing is growing exponentially. Your help in doing this is always appreciated.

BP - a true friend in time of need

Surely the best kind of friend is one that comes to your assistance before you have even had a chance to call for help. That is exactly the approach taken by BP at the start of the COVID19 Emergency. As the country locked down North West blood Bikes,Lancs & Lakes like other charities saw its income from events, promotions and sponsors would be cut off. But the needs and the road miles supporting the NHS with essential out of hours transport would continue and probably increase. So the Charity was amazed and delighted to see a Press Release from BP announcing “BP will supply free fuel to the UK’s emergency services vehicles during the current crisis” That generous sponsorship included supporting blood-bike charities such as NWBB. All though the worst days of the pandemic as our fleet of specialist motorcycles continued to operate they were able to fill up at BP stations with the company footing the bill. We have not yet counted up the total saving but with some of the machines doing around 2000 miles in a month this valuable help runs into thousands of pounds. At the time Bernard Looney, BP chief executive said: “This crisis is affecting every part of society and all of us are trying to do what we can to help. It is vital that we support those on whom we all depend, as well as the most vulnerable in our communities. We have identified two ways where we can use our resources and presence around the country to make a small contribution. We will continue to look for other opportunities, taking advice from the authorities, as the country’s response continues to evolve.”
Well said Bernard! NWBB Lancs & Lakes and all who depend on us thank BP for their initiative and we are delighted to celebrate the company as our current “Sponsor of the Month”
